Google Maps released an official API yesterday. Although I have a small problem with the API, I see this as a really great development. It means sites such as my chicagocrime.org won't break when Google changes its code, and it'll encourage more independent developers to create interesting map applications.
I'd like to take the opportunity to announce I'm available to do contract work on custom Google Maps projects. Need a simple map on your site? A more complex arrangement of map data? I've been reverse-engineering and playing with Google Maps for three months -- and that's about as experienced as you can be in this extremely young field.
Please contact me if you're interested in my help.

Any luck with polygon shapefile import for google maps yet? the fellows at alov.org have been doing it for years as a java based web client feature, but I have yet to see anyone implement them with google maps.

Is a google map hack for crime in NYC feasible? Crime data can be obtained from the NYPD's COMPSTAT weekly info. COMPSTAT is delayed by a week or two. I'd really like to see this. What do you think?

Do you know how many times we can query the google map api, have google set a maximum number, like there other API’s? And how many hits do you get on Chicagocrime.org? Cause if i get my site developed, and i get 1000’s and millions of hits, will the api still work???
Just curious, before I ask you to develop something for me.
Thanks in advance, dude.

Andy -- There appears to be a limit at 50,000 page views per day, according to their sign-up page. I think I get just less than that on chicagocrime.org, but it's definitely been more on some days (around slashdottings). I've e-mailed them for special permission but haven't heard back from them yet.
I hope they're willing to make special cases, and I'd encourage you to send them a note as well.

Hello Adrian, I'm a friend of Imran's he told me to have a look at your project (chicagocrime.org), and i must say its really impressive, nice to see something really useful on the internet, for once.
Its a petty we don't have something like this for the UK.
Imran also mentioned you will be working on his project, i cant wait to see the finished product.
All the best.
Karen
